TV just got smarter


Get ready for the interactive television viewing experience. After LCD and LED TVs, the local market is now seeing arrival of Smart TVs—a combination of internet and web features in TV sets.

CG Electronics, authorised distributor of LG and Nepa Hima Trade Links, authorised distributor of Sony, have introduced LCD and LED televisions with internet browsing facilities.

CG has introduced two variants of LG Smart TVs—32-inch and 42-inch. Both models are LED TV’s. The latest innovation from LG, according to the company, incorporates a number of smart TV functions, giving users access to the internet content through the connectivity.

“The Smart TVs have been launched in the Nepali market with a motive to provide customers the latest innovations in the technological world,” said Purshotam Bhandari, sales head at LG division of CG Electronics. He added that the televisions offers web surfing, wireless access to content stored in digital devices and enjoy full range of quality lifestyle applications and interactive games. Moreover, users can use social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter among various others.

“Apart from word and excel, there are almost all facilities available in these machines,” said Bhandari.

According to Bhandari, these TVs are targeted at youngsters and those who keep updating their electronics. “The response so far has been overwhelming. We are totally satisfied with the sales,” said Bhandari. The 32-inch LED smart TV from LG is available for Rs 96,690 and the 42-inch variant costs Rs 142,000.

Likewise, Nepa Hima Trade Links has brought in 14 variants—from 32-inch to 55-inch—of internet TVs from Sony.

Of the 14 models, three are LCD and rest are LED TVs. “People are looking for something new. They are not hesitant try out latest products. Therefore, we have come up with these devices and we are pretty confident,” said Binil Bajracharya, general manager-sales and marketing at Nepa Hima Trade Link. He added that the continuous growth in the number of internet users will also help these TVs succeed in the domestic market.

Smart TVs from Sony enable users to use almost all internet applications such as YouTube, Skype and Facebook, among others. Users can operate these TVs by a remote control or mobile handsets by downloading applications.

The Sony internet TVs are priced between Rs 68,000 and Rs 612,000. According to Bajracharya, the company has targeted to sell 6,000 units of the TVs this year.
